Help Please....Custom Paint
Hi Guys
I'm looking for pics of custom painted roofs (Car Roofs)
if anyone has any pics or knows of a good site i'd appreciate it, I'm thinking of removing the vinyl roof and doing a silver or gold metalfake base coat with maybe candy apple red panels / inlays with lace or something
lkinda ike these pics, i need ideas for designs and colours. I'm only thinking of doing the roof, I even thought of using the body colour on the roof then Ghosting the panels so they are only obvious close up. I can do all the painting myself except for the lace I've never done that.

The Candy Man
Hi Dave, love your thinkin'. It's what I'd love to do to a '62 coupe one day.

Just keep that lace tight.

Re: Help Please....Custom Paint
Hi Paul
Thanks for that .... never thought to look at you tube.
I'm not sure i could do the lace, although the process is easy enough just a matter of having it tight enough to prevent bleeding
the line work and fading i've done before It's just time consuming but very rewarding when it's done. the old style we use to do was pronounced contrasting lines, like lime green lines on white paint these days i like the really subtle lines you have to look to see them.
Some guys even use the same colour paint and tint it a little darker or lighter, very subtle effect .
It's been 15 years since I've sprayed real HOK candy paint, Maybe i should grab some old panels and start practicing.
Anyone else seen anything or got any pics.

Hi Dave,
We did some lacing on Shaun's Lo-Lux a while back now.
The lacing is the easy part, it's all the tap work / layout that is the difficult item.
>> Straight lines!! And making the design flow to what is in your head.
But the bigger problem is not been seen at "Spotlight" choosing the lace design

Dave,
Just a sample of a car I found a while back. It has since been sold with different wheels and air bags fitted but love the paint job and the roof may be what you are talking about

I cant believe how subtle the panelling is along the sides on the Hood and the roof, That's what I love to do,Aussiebird wrote:Dave,

Yh I agree I think i like it better with the 5 spokes. that pait work is so well done.the hours that would have gone into producing that. It really makes me want to go out and rip the vinyl off mine and start prepairing & painting.

Do it Dave - you will have it ready to start preparing by daylight ha ha
Yours has a vinyl roof? You have just made me think I have seen so many cars vinyl wrapped of late - considering technology I wonder if they do anything fancy like this stuff?

Vinyl Wrap,
Well You can have the stuff printed with anything I dont see why it couldn't be done, might be a good option, I'll start googling.
I use to own a Nissan 300ZX twin Turbo and a guy on thier Forum Vinyl from Canberra wrapped the entire car in 3m Carbon Fibre, I saw it at thier Nationals in Goulburn and It was very impressive. Not sure if they can do it glossy enough though, I did my interior with the 3M stuff in woodgrain.
I'm going Googling will post up if i find anything, Well done Matt thinking outside the square.

Re: Help Please....Custom Paint
It's pretty big here in Sydney - lots of Lamborghinis done to change the colour of the car and even a new rolls Royce. They are selling the point that you can wrap a brand new car and then peel the vinyl off 5 years later and you have an unmarked factory paint job. That reminds me a friends father was going to wrap his customline - not sure if he finished it as yet. Much cheaper than a full respray and the result is the same shiney finish but the panels have to perfect as the vinyl shows up any faults

That one is a little to full on for my liking, I prefer them a little less in ya face.
It is a nice car tho It was at a show somewhere, maybe custom Nats at Philip Island.
The ones I've got on the Facebook page are more my speed.

Re: Help Please....Custom Paint
So what happens in the door-opening, inside the boot, around the doors themselves etc? - i.e. the places that a repaint normally (should?) cover.??
