Cruising in my 56 Thunderbird / Geelong / ALL FORD DAY
Plenty has been said about the ALL FORD DAY last week end.
Thought I would share my day out in the Baby Bird to and from Geelong.

Re: Cruising in my 56 Thunderbird / Geelong / ALL FORD DAY
Hey Dave,
It was disappointing to travel all the way to Geelong and set up our cars in the allocated area only to be one of a few Thunderbirds on display. Our display section was also shared with (I think) Customlines. I guess TBirds have become an endangered species over the last few years so the organisers now maximise the display areas.
Yes there were Falcons...and Capris, Cortinas, GT's, Mustangs etc etc. After all it as an ALL FORD DAY and these cars are born, bread and more readily available locally. So What!
Thunderbirds should be better represented at this annual event each and every year.
It shouldn't matter if it is through TOCA or the Forum guys or the independent solo owners.
As our friend Platon said...Ford is our Umbrella Brand. On this point alone Thunderbirds should make a better effort to attend. The massive general public as well as the owners of all the other Ford models should be able to marvel and enjoy the Thunderbirds.
After all these cars are the 'Luxury Cruisers' and still limited in numbers.
There are heaps of American Car shows - North, South, West, East Metro as well as country.
Only the one ALL FORD DAY. Warts and all.
Having said that. I don't get it how after 22 years of running this event that the organisers still can't be more efficient in getting the cars in to the grounds. One single file of cars trickling along (in stinking heat) with many drivers nervously watching their temp gauges and stretching their necks up and out to see what the delay might be. Even for the pre paids.
I know that there will always be different issues for the Ford owners. The 'lack of value for money' has already had plenty of print space on this Forum , a lack of shelter from extreme weather conditions and also the tyranny of distance for those of us South / South-East.
Now that I have done it with my Baby Bird once, I probably won't need to do it again. I have to say that I felt like I was melting in that sun driving topless - especially that long trip back home. Luckily the TBird performed better than I did.
I almost feel as we (the car and I) achieved something great because we left early in the morning and made it back home late in the afternoon without any problems.
Having said all that...I reckon I would go again. If...we were able to get together a good number of Thunderbirders to travel down, set up a terrific display and blow away the public with a collection of beautiful classics. All pre arranged with food, refreshments, shade and plenty of light hearted banter and car talk.

Well said James
Very well said, I agree and can see no reason why we cant put a good number of TBirds Together for next year. a little bit of planning and some organizing and we would undoubtedly have a great day. It's up to us to make it happen !!!!!.
Of course all this is dependant on Ford still being here next year.

Totally agree with your thoughts and as mentioned on many occasions, I would Always go back there, as it is the only ALL FORD DAY in Victoria, and if we do this right it can and will be a great day with great cars and great friends, a little pre planning for shelter and refreshments will make it a awesome day, maybe even take a trophy home for one of our members, it may make Charlie a little upset to not take one home, but I’m sure he won’t mind, as he has many in the cupboards at home.

Good question Paul, James I'm also interested to see how it was done. I did see the camera in the rearvision mirror at one stage but not enough to see how you mounted it to the car.
It wont be long before we're all driving around doing the Spielberg thing.
Gio has a good system in his car the camera is mounted to the Windscreen.
And Arthur ......well he just mounts cameras everywhere......Arthur maybe next one could be inside the Sump,
Now that would make for some intersting viewing.
