Hi Everyone
I thought I'd start this as a new Topic, In my last post i mentioned that my wife Deborah and I are moving to Philip Island to look after my son Chris who has been left a quadrapalegic and has some brain damage after a motorbike accident, He's been in 24 /7 care for the last 3 months but the money only goes so far, His beautifull wife is working to earn what she can but it's not a lot Deb & i are both retired and can only help so much, we've rented our home in Pakenham and will move in with Chris and his wife Julie to be his day carers while Julie works, the rental income from our home will go towards thier Mortgage, anyway enough rambling, One of my sons mates mentioned we could do a fund raiser to help Chris & Julie out .

I was wondering would it be possible to put on a car show, as a fund raiser, I'm not sure if this is legal, ethical etc, any help would be appreciated. If we can we'd like to have it here on the Island as we've got lots of voulenteers already. Interested to know your thougts, any help appreciated. Max & Deb

Hi Max
really sorry to hear that news mate, nothing worse than someone young being cut down. he's a lucky lad he's got great parents and obviously a great wife.

Ok I'm no expert but i'm fairly sure that Car shows have to be run by an incorporated body, ie Car Club, this I believe is for insurance purposes public Liability etc. there are ways around this I've got some contacts I'll see what i can find out..

There's one weekend each year at Camperdown which is a Rock n Roll (rockabilly) and Hot Rod Classic Car festival, It's proven to be such a winner for the area that now Ballarat council have contacted the organizer and the same thing is happening in Ballarat in Feb 2013. It's a 3 day festival, I have no doubt that If this type of thing was presented properly to the Relevant State body at Philip Island outlining all the advantages to the Community, Retailers etc, I'm sure they'd jump at it and with facilities like the GP track and good music venues it would be a great success, there is a Custom car one on down there each year but lots of Classic car & Hot Rod guys are getting disgruntled because they're not being made as welcome as they once were, they are really tailoring it to Custom Cars which will have an ongoing effect on it'a attendance figures. The gate is open for someone to really make something of this, If it were aimed at pre 1975 chrome Bumper cars and Clubs like Eagles Rod & Custom, Thunderbirds Rod & Custom, The Classic & Rod Club, Lets go Cruzin etc were brought together It would put Philip Island on the Classic Car Map. Not to mention create a lot of income for a worthy charity.
The downside would be the workload to get it all organised, It would take a well organised committee of hard workers and a presentation that would blow the Boffins socks off, graphs, Pie Charts projected spending, Numbers for Accomodation etc. I guess that's probbably a little more than you had in mind. Sorry i cant help myself when i get going. Anyway I'm more than willing to help in anyway i can when you decide just what you want to do. If you go with the car show dont fall into the trap of allowing late model cars in, you will be sorry and the future will be short lived. Councils, Residents and Retailers hate Burnouts. Go with Chrome Bumper cars up tp 1975. generally very well behaved and a group that is massive in numbers and growing by the day. Just my 2c $1.20 worth Very Happy Anyway need any help give me a call. Dave

Hi Max
i dug this one up because I'm wondering where you're at with it. Have you moved to the Island yet, I hope all is going well for your Son and your wife and you.

I've spoken to a mate whose involved in the early Fairlane Club and they've been thinking about hosting a show for a while, I mentioned your siuation and he likes the idea of Philip Island as a venue and is keen to put the profits from the show Towards helping your Son get back on track, He's already got the backing of some corporate sponsorship to cover inital costs which is often the big issue, so this could be just the vehicle you need to get some good funds to help with your sons future needs, If you'd like to move forward with this PM me and I'll give you Mike's contact details. I know there will be plenty of support from the Members of this Forum to make sure it's a success. cheers Dave
